Range of procedures

Other eye operations

Our focus is cataract surgery. Beyond that, your surgeon operates on eyelids, conjunctiva, lens, vitreous and retina, at the practice or in hospital.

Procedures

What we offer besides cataract surgery

Every procedure begins with a personal assessment by the surgeon. Whether an operation makes sense is decided by findings and advice, not by what is on offer.

Laser treatments

at the practice

Secondary cataract
Months or years after cataract surgery, the back of the lens capsule can cloud over. The YAG laser opens the capsule painlessly in a few minutes, without an incision. Vision usually clears again within hours to days.
Capsular phimosis
If the opening in the capsule contracts after surgery, the laser widens it again. The same procedure as for secondary cataract.

Lens surgery after cataract surgery

at the Hospital of the Brothers of St John of God, Vienna

Secondary lens fixation
When a lens implant has lost its support, for example after an injury or with weak suspension, it is refixed or exchanged for a fixated lens. A particular focus of your surgeon, on which he publishes and teaches.
Add-on lens for refractive surprise
If the visual result after surgery differs from the calculated target, a second, thin lens can be placed in front of the existing one. It corrects the remaining error without removing the first lens.

Retina and vitreous

at the Hospital of the Brothers of St John of God, Vienna

Epiretinal membrane
A fine membrane on the centre of the retina distorts the image. During surgery it is peeled from the retina under the microscope. Whether surgery makes sense is shown by the OCT.
Vitrectomy for floaters
Opacities in the vitreous that permanently impair vision are removed by taking out the vitreous. We operate only when the burden justifies the procedure.
Retinal detachment
A detached retina is an emergency and is operated on promptly to preserve vision. Sudden flashes, a shower of black dots or a shadow in your field of vision are warning signs: contact us immediately.

Eyelids and conjunctiva

at the Hospital of the Brothers of St John of God, Vienna

Blepharoplasty
Tightening of sagging upper eyelids when excess skin narrows the field of vision or makes the eyes look tired.
Entropion and ectropion
An eyelid turned inwards or outwards irritates the cornea and conjunctiva. Surgery restores the normal lid position.
Pterygium
Conjunctival tissue growing onto the cornea is removed before it disturbs vision. The wound is covered with the patient's own conjunctival tissue to reduce regrowth.

And everything else

What we do not offer, we say openly

A practice that concentrates on surgery cannot cover every subspecialty. For conditions outside our range, we refer you to trusted colleagues, with findings and a written report.

Your regular eye check-ups after an operation can continue with your usual eye doctor. You receive all the documents from us.

Your surgeon

In the operating theatre almost daily

Around 800 eye operations a year, many of them complex, in Vienna and on surgical missions in Guatemala. Plus conference lectures and ongoing training in vitreoretinal surgery.
